{ Celebrity + Humanitarian = Celebritarian }

The Celebritarian of the Month is: DANIEL DAY-LEWIS.

 V-sketch

Actor and humanitarian Daniel Day-Lewis lost his mother Jill Balcon Day-Lewis, to a terminal disease in 2009. Her final days were spent at the Petersfield Community Hospital in Hampshire, England, where she was treated with the type of dignity and respect all terminally ill patients should receive.

Inspired by this experience, Daniel Day-Lewis has become an advocate for the hospice community. With his support, Wicklow, Ireland – where he resides – is in the process of building it’s first hospice center.

The Celebritarian pays homage to Jill Balcon; a classically trained child pianist, who grew up to become a highly respected stage and film star, and the mother of the man that Time magazine called, “The World’s Greatest Actor.”

Hear this month’s tribute on our Soundcloud podcast, directly below. It begins with a reading of Shakespeare’s sonnet no. 3,  in honor of Jill Balcon’s love for the British playwright’s writings, and learn how her son is using his global platform to bring about change and spread awareness for the cause.
